Aerial dawn view from the Cangshan Mountains over golden fields and a sea of cloud

Tour 3 of 4

Photography & Hidden Gems

A thousand-year salt-well village, Cangshan's sea of clouds and an Erhai sunrise — made for photographers and travellers who like to go deep.

Early mornings, rewarded with frames few people get.

This route trades crowds for character. We head into the mountains to Nuodeng, a Bai village built on ancient salt wells, come back to ride up Cangshan for sea-of-clouds viewpoints and a vegetarian lunch at Jizhao'an, and finish with sunrise over Erhai at Longkan Dock. Expect early starts — that's where the best light is.

Good to know

  • Nuodeng is about 2.5–3 hours from Cangshan on mountain roads, so the morning of day 2 is mostly spent driving — keep the Cangshan walk light that day.
  • To explore Nuodeng more deeply and hike Cangshan properly, we recommend extending to 4 days.
  • High altitude and lakeside: bring sun protection and warm layers — it's windy up top, so go at your own pace.
